Title Vehicle Dependence for Daily Traveling -- A Case Study forThe Residents in Taipei Metropolitan

  The study was undertaken to explore travelers’ dependence on specific vehicle usage. A questionnaire survey was conducted to collect travelers’ opinion in response to the situations that car, motorcycle, bus and rapid transit are not allowed to be used respectively. The Rasch measurement was then employed to analyze individual travelers’ dependence on specific vehicles, and the vehicle dependences on a specific mode were compared among different groups of travelers in terms of age, income, and car ownership etc.   In daily activities, the highest of dependence for motorcycle is the people who need to go to work everyday. For car ownership, the highest of dependence is the people who have luxury activities. For public transit, the highest of dependence is the people who need to commute to school or work. For people who have unmarried, young people, and the monthly salary is under N.T. 5000 dollars…etc, will have higher motorcycle usage. For people, who have higher education, higher monthly salary, higher car usage and lower motorcycle usage…etc, will have higher car usage.   The students, freelancers or housewives who don’t have motorcycle and car licenses, they will have higher rate of public transit usage.   The study results provide a set of valuable information for transportation policy planning and offer the reference basis to restrict the private vehicle usage.
