In the past few years, the equipment installed in vehicles got obviously improvement, especially for entertainment needs. In the past, drivers pay attention to what happened in front of the vehicle while driving. But now, they have to spent time to control the entertainment function such as change the radio channel, choose the music from CD change or change the temperature in the vehicle. So more equipment means drivers can not only focus on the road situation anymore. They have to pay attention in both front situation and also their entertainment needs. In lot of research to analyze what make accident happened. The result shows that most accident is coming form the distraction of drivers while driving. Less condition is link to the vehicle it-self. So, how to avoid driver’s distraction is the main topic of government or manufacture for further study. In my study, I would like to analyze the effect of accident that may caused by touch screen, especially compare with the previous control unit of keystroke. We understand the keystroke is used for vehicle for many years. Keystroke is the main control units for vehicles in the past. Due to there are lot of equipments installed into vehicle for customer’s needs. There is not enough space for manufacture to install the keystroke control unit into vehicle’s center console. Touch screen is coming for solving the problem to combine lot of different control into one screen. That can really solve manufacture’s problem. But there is a serious weakness of touch screen that driver have to pay attention on what is showing on the screen before controlling what they want. So, we would like to study the timing for driver to control in both keystroke and touch screen. Especially how much time is used for moving their eyes from front view to keystroke or touch screen. That can help us understanding more about the effect of both control units to drivers about which get higher ratio to cause accidents. The outcome of this study can help government or manufactures more seriously to develop the equipment in vehicles and try their best to reduce the ration of accident happened.
