The taxi among the transportation modes has been called Para-transit mode. Its function is between private mode and mass transportation mode. On the one hand, it has characteristics of mass transportation; on the other hand, it offers the functions of private transportation mode such as fast, comfortable, private, and door to door services. These characteristics are accorded with the demands of the people who live in the city. However, according to statistical data, the traffic accident rates of the taxi are very high. For examples, the taxi’s accident is ranking at first place in per 10 thousands of vehicles, and at second place in per million-kilometer vehicle. In such of high accident rate, not only the passenger cannot get the service of they want to, but also increase the possibility of be hurt. Meanwhile, there are a few studies focused on taxi accident analysis in Taiwan area. The most literatures are focused on management of taxi companies, or on management of taxi’s driver. The reason is taxi traffic accident which is categorized in passenger car traffic accident. Therefore, the severity of traffic accident in taxi is neglected.
Methodologies of this study include three parts. First, we use literature review to find characteristics of taxi and the suitable analytical mode. Second, we collected the 960 cases of traffic accidents of taxies at Taichung City in 2000. Third, we use the logistic regression model to construct the severity of taxi accident.
The results of this study show (1).From individual point of view, Logistic Regression Models are suitable for the analysis for the degree of severity of taxi accident. (2).Opposite drivers are easily hurt comparing to taxi driver during a crash and the severity rate is about eleven times. (3).Whatever the accident responsibility of taxi driver is higher; the opposite driver will be easily hurt or killed. (4).The male taxi driver will cause more severe damage than female taxi driver. (5).In all kinds of vehicles, the truck drivers are less dangerous, but the bicyclist and pedestrian are the most dangerous, and the next one is motorcyclist. |
