Title Empirical Validation of Freeway Bus Travel Time Forecasting
Author Chien-Hung Wei, Shih-Chieh Lin, Ying Lee
Summary A travel time forecasting model has been developed satisfactorily in previous research using the artificial neural networks. In order to assess how effective the model is in the real traffic condition, we conducted this validation study. In this study, we discussed the model forecasting ability in different distances with different origin and destination pairs. In comparing real bus travel time with the forecasted travel times, we employed four criteria to evaluate the model outputs. The empirical results indicated stable and reliable performance of the proposed forecasting model. While more validations are required, this study showed very promising practical applicability of the proposed model in the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) context.
