Title A Study Of The Issues And Response Strategies For Container Ports In Taiwan After The Commencement Of Cross-Strait Direct Shipping
Author Chuen-Yih Chen, Ching-Chiao Yang, Chin-Yuan Chu
Summary This study aims to evaluate the issues being faced and response strategies for container ports in Taiwan after the commencement of cross-strait direct shipping. Based on the analysis of existing situations in the shipping market and the Cross-Strait Sea Transport Agreement, five major issues faced by Taiwanese container ports were addressed and twenty-two response strategies were subsequently developed. Results of a survey conducted in this study indicate that port authorities could adopt parallel strategies of capitalizing on the trend and reversing the situation. Regarding the response strategies, this study suggests that container port authorities should continually improve their service quality, provide training for staff in port operation management and global marketing, provide value-added services through free trade port zones, and prepare well for future negotiations with Mainland China.
