Title Planning and Design of Infrastructure System for Electric Scooter at Penghu Recreational Area
Author Ying-Wei Wang, Huan-Chen Kang, Ya-Ru Yang
Summary Penghu, an archipelago with beautiful landscape and rich ocean resources located in Taiwan Strait , is an important and potential area of international/national island tourism and recreation. To promote island tourism and maintain the clean environment, it is proper to encourage residents/travelers to ride electric scooters with low pollution and no noise in this restricted small area. However, this new mode is still constrained by its insufficient cruising distance and long-time recharging. So far only a few people ride them. To successfully promote this new mode in this district, our government should establish a smooth operational environment for the practical use as marketing strategy. This study employs the methods of traveler’s questionnaire and on-site investigation in scenic spots/historical sites to obtain the data related to types of travelers, traffic mode, practical time consumed during the tour, etc. According to the major journey planning in traveling, the suitable locations for setting the stations of electric power can be evaluated. Then, in accordance with the related results of evaluations, a simple location model is developed to decide effectively the locations and the numbers of the electric-power stations. Using this model to locate the stations can save setting expenses and is proved to satisfy the needs of electric power in the journey by electric scooter. Based on this infrastructure, the electric-scooter industry will not only create its market, but also facilitate the development of the tourism industry .
