Title The 14th Project of Accident-Prone Locations Improvement in the Taiwan Area
Dept Transportation Safety Division
Year 1996
Summary

This project is conducted by the Institute of Transportation (IOT) under the Program of Improving Traffic Order and Safety, which is in response to a decree issued by the Executive Yuan. Through a computer analysis of the 1995 accident data in the Taiwan area provided by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications Information Center, the study identified the accident-prone locations throughout the Taiwan area. To have a better understanding of those locations, field study teams were arranged. The team members included officers from the Road Traffic Safety Commission, the IOT, the Provincial Department of Transportation, the Taiwan Highway Bureau, and the police and engineering offices of local governments. After a full discussion within the team members, the IOT has proposed an improvement plan for each accident-prone location. This year, a total of 320 accident-prone locations have been identified. The total cost to improve those locations is NT 70,815,860 and the average cost for each location is NT 221,300.
