Title Demonstration and Evaluation of Performance Indices and Monitoring System for Urban Transportation
Dept IOT
Year 1998
Summary Periodical evaluation and surveillance of the efficiency indexes of the urban transportation system are essential to superintend transportation system’s operations.

Accordingly, we can avoid misspending of the resources and discover traffic problems in order to improve the traffic condition and dissolve the problems.

To achieve the purposes mentioned above, the study covered several issues as follows :

(1) To confirm the feasibility of the indexes established in "Study on the Establishment of Performance Indices and Monitoring System for Urban Transportation".

(2) To discuss and modify definitions of the indexes or the data-collection methods.

(3) To specify acceptable boundaries for the indexes, class level and overall-index.

(4) To discuss the organizational framework of the urban transportation performance monitoring system, operational procedures, and propel methods.

(5) To develop an "Efficiency Evaluation Program" and to write the "Handbook of Efficiency Evaluation for Urban Transportation Systems".

In this report, the issues regarding the selection of demonstrating cities discussed in Chapter 3,4 and 5 include the results of modification and evaluation. Acceptable boundaries for the indexes and applications are given in Chapter 6 and 7 to provide descriptions of the periodical monitoring system. Conclusions and suggestions are summarized in Chapter 8. For more operational details, please refer to the manual of Efficiency Evaluation Program and "Handbook of Efficiency Evaluation for Urban Transportation Systems" (October 1998, IOT Serial No. 87-53-5175, 58 pp.).
