Title The Study of Trip Generation and Parking Demand for Warehouse Stores
Dept IOT
Year 1998
Summary The General Merchandise Stores (G.M.S.), e.g. Makro, RT-MART, etc., were opened continuously in the last decades. The characteristics of G.M.S., i.e. plentiful commodities, lower prices, mass-packing, and always on sale, can provide incentives for consumers to buy more. The private modes, therefore, are the common-seen transport modes used by shoppers. These vehicles will cause a lot of negative impacts on the street traffic, especially, the warehouse-type G.M.S., which have large retailing floor and wilder service area, usually have the most serious impact on the road traffic. The purpose of this research is to investigate the shoppers* travel characteristics of warehouse-type G.M.S. The measuring methods on trip generation and parking demand are provided in order to serve as a reference for the evaluation and examination of the Traffic Impact Assessment of a new warehouse-type G.M.S. The content of this report covers the following: (1)the scope of investigating objects; (2)the methodology of investigating, sampling, and statistics; (3)the survey of the characteristics of sample buildings; (4)the collection of the traffic data nearby the samples; (5)the survey of the trip pattern; (6)the calculation of the trip generation rate and the development of the forecasting model; and (7)the calculation of the parking generation rate and the development of the forecasting model.
