Title A Study on Civil Aviation Development in Taiwan Area(Summary)
Dept Transportation Planning and Land Transport Division
Year 1997
Summary As the national economy continuously grows, the commercial and recreational activities are getting more frequent. In recent years, since the railway capacity is limited and highway transport is lower reliable, air transport demand increases significantly and induces great impact on the use and operation of airport facilities. Public participation in asking for new domestic/international airports for the purpose of transport convenience also enhances the need of airports.

However, owing to the limited availability of land and airspace, and the huge investment of building an airport, the socio-economic and location factors in locating and developing airport(s) should be seriously evaluated.

In keeping with the public needs, arising air transport demand and air hub policy, this study covers a comprehensive transport demand forecast, review and analysis of the existing airport facilities and access transport systems. In addition, based on the guidelines of Integrated Transportation Systems Planning for Taiwan Area, the airport and airline development strategies for short-and long-term are proposed.
