Title A Study on the Size and Weight of Ready-mix Trucks
Dept IOT
Year 1998
Summary It has been noted that overloaded and oversized ready-mix trucks cause a number of serious problems, such as damage on highway pavement and bridges, as well as degrading the highway operating safety due to the truck’s configuration change. In order to solve these problems, the Ministry of Transportation and Communication (MOTC) issued the volumetric regulation to control the mixer size. However, due to the irregular shape of the mixers, the act was not very successfully implemented by the enforcement forces. The main objective of this study is to develop an efficient and practical managing strategy which can control the size and the weight of the ready-mix trucks. Data collection and analysis regarding all dimensions related to the ready-mix trucks currently used as well as the investigation of the appropriate weight limits are two major tasks of this study. Through the open discussion among government agencies, trucking companies, distributors, and researchers, a final truck weight and size controlling proposal including immediate, mid-term, and long-term strategies is presented. It is anticipated that this proposed strategy will facilitate the ready-mix truck industry with a fair competition circumstance.
