Title Construction of a 2050 Deep Carbon Reduction Assessment Model for the Transportation Sector and Promotion of Greenhouse Gas Reduction (1/2)—Model Construction and Promotion of Carbon Reduction
Dept Transportation Energy and Environment Division
Year 2023
Month 9
Price 550
Summary

       This project is to assist the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) in, firstly, studying the pathways to net-zero emissions in the transportation sector in 2050 and building a framework of the model for assessing deep decarbonization policies, strategies and action plans in the transportation sector; secondly, executing the competence of the MOTC about the “The Second Phase (2021 - 2025) Sectoral Action Program in the Transportation Sector”; thirdly, executing the competence of the MOTC about climate change following the national policy to achieve GHG net-zero emissions by 2050.

Key research outcomes include:

  1. Collecting up-to-date strategies for carbon reduction in the transportation sector and attending the Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP27) to collect the latest trends in carbon reduction strategies in the transportation sector;
  2. Drafting "The Second Phase Sectoral Action Program in the Transportation Sector" by the Greenhouse Gas Reduction and Management Act;
  3.  Proposing the process and methodology for reviewing the net-zero emissions pathways and roadmap in the transportation sector in Taiwan in 2050. This blueprint will serve as a reference for subsequent reviews and applications in planning the rolling strategies and pathways for achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.;
  4. Estimating the energy consumption, energy intensity and GHG emissions by vehicle type and transportation mode in Taiwan;
  5. Building a model framework for assessing deep decarbonization policies, strategies and action plans in the transportation sector by 2050, which integrates and links existing carbon reduction strategy evaluation tools as a tool box that could be upgraded and expanded in the future when needed.
