This project aims to maintain an existing database, the International Air Transport Database (IATD), and to update its contained data inside. The IATD consists of two major parts: Airport Facility and Operation (AFO) and Passenger Origin-Destination (POD). This term attempts to append an international cargo database with the cargo throughputs of Taoyuan International Airport (TPE).
The main works this year include updating the basic and operating data of 200 airports in this database and profiling traveler movements of major airports in 2021 subscribed from the IATA MarketIS database. The selected airports for subscription to IATA include Taipei (TPE) and other Taiwanese airports, Seoul (ICN), Tokyo-Narita (NRT), Singapore (SIN), Hong Kong (HKG), Shanghai (PVG), Los Angeles (LAX), Bangkok (BKK), Kualumpor (KUL), Ho-Chi-Ming City (SGN), and Manila (MNL). An additional subscription for 2019 datasets of BKK, KUL, and SGN for the comparison with the markets pre-Covid-19 pandemic. The forms of market records include the movement of origin and destination (O-D) and transferred passengers with Excel files. TPE cargo throughput data records the distributions of export, import, transfer from the warehouse or to the warehouse, and ramp transfer. The former four items contain the carried freight in kilograms countries from or to TPE by specific airlines, while the last one records the operating airlines and their carried cargo weights. The database currently maintains monthly data from 2019 to 2021.
Another part for data analysis conducted traffic comparisons among international airports in different areas, which covered Asia, North America, Europe, etc. Additionally, the mid-term report of this project dealt with three analysis topics: dedicated freighters application during the pandemic for selected Asian airlines, and freight market analysis of TPE from 2019 to 2021. |
