Summary

Taiwan has promoted traffic-safety education for many years. The government of Taiwan has developed basic competency frameworks and lesson modules for road -safety education into the official school curriculum. To enhance the teaching and learning motivation of Taiwanese teachers and students with regards to the concept of traffic safety, this paper looks to international expertise and practices on how the concept of road safety is introduced into education through emerging technologies. In addition, in this paper also investigates the needs and difficulties schools face as they apply the latest technologies in teaching, and finds solutions to assist professional teachers in teaching road safety by applying emerging technologies. This project uses the “Delphi Method” technique to select three different topics (categorized into 22 subgroups): "Hazard Perception", "Vehicle Usage" and "Traffic Knowledge and Technology Utilization" in road -safety education. We recommend these three topics as the primary topics to be introduced to schools. Furthermore, for this project, we visited schools in-person and organized seminars to gather the opinions and experiences rom teachers delivering road safety education. In gathering the above, we discovered several issues, e.g., teachers responsible for delivering the topic lack educational resources to teach road safety, teachers do not know how to introduce the topic of road safety to students using emerging technologies, etc. In this paper we suggest that the Taiwan government take reference from foreign countries in areas such as the , development of practical teaching aids for road safety education. In the short term, the Taiwan government should encourage teachers to cooperate with each other in the development of teaching materials. More teachers delivering the topic and
principals should be trained and supported. We also suggest that the Taiwan government organize competitions or call for proposals to encourage teaching innovation and teachers collaborate in a cross-over manner. Lastly, in this project we would also suggest how the government should achieve the long-term goal of developing road safety education. We recommend the Taiwan government focus on developing teachers specialized in road safety education and establish cross-disciplinary teams to assist schools in the implementation and popularization of road safety education.
