       As an island country, Taiwan relies heavily on maritime transportation to maintain the flow of goods in and out of its boundary. In particular, shipping of industrial products, which are mostly carried in containers, plays a vital role in supporting Taiwan’s economy. As such, it is thus important for the government to watch the international container shipping market closely, and establish an up-to-date global view in this sector.
       In order to provide the government with accurate and useful data, the Institute of Transportation, MOTC developed the International Maritime Database in year 2013. Over time, the Database have steadily grown and thrived. The main task of this project is to maintain the Database in three directions: keep the data current, maintain the software, and perform studies utilizing the data. Three subjects are studied for the last part, namely analysis on the Alliance’s Far East – Eurpoe service lines, the Alliance’s Far East – North America service lines, and service lines in the Far East and New Southern area.
