Title Study of the hazard countermeasures in response to the morphological changes near the coastal highway in Taitung
Dept Transportation Technology Research Center
Year 2020
Month 2
Price 200
Summary       The objective of this project is to propose hazard countermeasures in response to the coastal highway in Taitung.
Knowledge improvements were made through extensive literature survey and investigating the effects due to the
improvement engineering which is under construction at present. The methodology to analyze the hydrodynamic
influence between before and after the improvement engineering is based on the well-validated wave-current-coupled
model for hydrodynamics and the sediment transport model for nearshore morphology changes. Research outcome can
be regarded as a reference from academic viewpoint for the assessment of hazard mitigation.
Literature reviews include the existing works from engineering and non-engineering prospective, where the former
one is focused on engineering studies, accounting for coastal highway attacked by waves and coastal erosion as well as
deposition, and the latter one is mostly paying attentions on the risk assessment of coastal highway and the warning
system concerning wave overtopping. To understand the historical hazard events for this region, the PIs has been
meeting with related institutes from the government side and consultant engineers to support and modify the hazard
countermeasures in a compromise between ideal and reality. Two locations were selected at coastal highways near
“Nanxien” and “Duoliang” to perform case studies in terms of hazard assessment and proposing “short-term” and
“long-term” countermeasures.
Based on the assessment of hazard mitigation, the hazard countermeasures in both engineering and non-engineering
prospective have been proposed for the Provincial Highway No. 9 in Taitung.
