Summary   Institute of Transportation's local area network(LAN) uses fiber optical cable as the network communication backbone to ensure fast, reliable, and various services. Open system design provides great flexibility and compatibility in further system expansion and integration. All personal computers are linked together and serviced by four Novell network servers which are the office automation(OA) server, the Internet Ready server, the office document server, and the computer laboratory server.

  OA server provides services in library information query, file transfer, and several network version application software, such as Windows 3.1, S-Plus, etc.. The Internet Ready server provides access to Internet and LAN simultaneously; several Internet servers are included, such as WWW, Email and FTP. The office document server keeps track of flow and scheduling of office document and also provides query functions. The computer laboratory server provides services in computer training, such as Word, Excel, Internet, etc..
