Summary The Institute of Transportation, MOTC carried out the Value-Added Application and Demonstration Project of Developing an APTS Application System with an Integrated Database from 2012 to 2013. The main purpose of the study is to use current APTS databases established by the Directorate General of Highways, MOTC, as well as city and county governments, and other useful databases (i.e., GIS, population distribution data and related operation data), to develop an APTS Value-Added Application System with an Integrated Database. This system with the government decision support functions can assist government authorities to objectively identify the bus service gaps, as well as to assess the effects of adjusting the allocation of transportation resources. The functions of this system have been tested by demonstration programs and confirmed to be effective. In 2014 this project not only maintained and operated this system, but also assisted the Directorate General of Highways and seven city and county governments to apply this system. In addition, this project discussed how to strengthen the data update functions and add the value-added application functions by including the databases derived from the bus electronic ticket systems.
