| Summary | ATMS is the basic infrastructure and core of Intelligence Transportation Systems. It will bring about the greater efficiency and reduce traffic congestion. This pilot research aims at integrating freeway management and local traffic control systems and transit travel information. This study proposed a conceptual architecture for regional traffic management system and developed a demo prototype system. It is very helpful and worthy to facilitate cooperation and share information between related authorities to improve traffic flow. The major contents are as follows: (1) To investigate the current techniques, practice and user’s requirements of traffic management systems employed by the major metropolitan and regions in Taiwan. (2) To collect and to review the projects, procedures, experience and results of the ATMS employed by other countries. (3) To compare the differences between Taiwan and other countries in the development of the ATMS techniques, as well as to evaluate the key issues affecting system and technology development. (4) To hold discussing meetings in order to share knowledge and come out the agreement for the development of ATMS in Taiwan. (5) To propose the strategical plan and the design of the early ATMS deployment system and its TMC. (6) To establish the ATMS and early deployment plans for TMC. To organize system’s structure and evaluate expected benefits. (7) To suggest the short-term, mid-term and long-term deployment strategies for the ATMS and possible actions in the near future. |
