Title Studies on International Maritime Conventions (8) - A Study on the Establishment of Prevention and Control Capability and International Cooperation on the Oil Pollution in Taiwan

Summary Recently, tanker wrecks dramatically alerted the world to the great dangers which the transport of oil posed to marine environment. IMO issued a series of conventions and other instruments, for example, MARPOL 73/78 and International Convention on Oil Pollution Preparedness. Response and Cooperation (OPRC, 1990) which has been considered by APEC members for future implementation.

This study is aimed to analyze the international conventions relating to the marine oil pollution in order to lay down Taiwan's national oil pollution preparedness, response and international cooperation policy. This study is also designed to improve the Taiwan government's capacity in coping with sudden marine emergencies, such as a tanker accident in the Taiwan area.
