Title Evaluation of Topological Accessibility for Major Cities in Taiwan Area

Summary By using topological accessibility this research analyzed the relationship between the urban development index and accessibility in Taiwan area, which is formed by public transportation under different modes - bus, railway, and civil aviation. There are 23 cities with various developing status were investigated in this research, such as Taipei, Taichung, etc. A GIS software, TransCAD, was used to combine these information. There are several components in this research:

(1) study of accessibility indices,
(2) airline related data collection and analyses,
(3) analyses of bus schedule and ridership,
(4) analyses of schedule regarding transport via railway,
(5) investigation of urban development indices published by the government, and
(6) integration of accessibility of major cities by various transport mode and comparison was made among those indices and status of urban development. Finally, conclusions and suggestions were made. Conclusions from this research may be used to improve the accessibility of each city providing by public transportation, from the perspective of urban development balancing.
