| Summary | Air transport in the Taiwan area had been strictly regulated before the "Implementation Notice on Entry, Route, and Aircraft Acquisition of Airline Industry" was issued in 1987. In the following years, air transport has been gradually deregulated, and drastic changes have been made due to national economic growth, booming travel demand and increasing public need for quality air service. This study examines air transport policy and relevant surroundings. First of all, the overall development of air transport is presented to build a platform for further research. Second, major air route markets are analyzed in detail. Third, fare is reviewed from the perspectives of consumer benefit as well as industry profit level. Last but not least, issues such as subsidization, safety, etc. are discussed. The conclusions and suggestions are drawn and expected to help the future growth of air transport in the Taiwan area. |
