Title Transportation Safety Research Findings and Future Issues of IOT,MOTC
Dept Transportation Safety Division
Year 1996
Summary

The Transportation Safety Division (TSD) was established by the Institute of Transportation (IOT), Ministry of Transportation and Communication (MOTC) in Taiwan. TSD is mainly responsible for enforcing the research and planning of national transportation safety related issues as well as for implementing and guiding the application of the research results. The purpose of this report is to integrate the research findings in the past years. According to the different topics, these research findings were divided into four groups, including land transportation safety, air transport safety, water transport safety and the others. Further, the land transportation safety, as the most important field, is divided into road safety and railway safety. Moreover, road safety is divided into five user-groups, vehicle, traffic management (including traffic engineering and parking) and comprehensive researches. In total, 143 researches were accomplished by TSD, and 123 among them approximately86% were related to road safety. In order to continually expedite transportation safety and reach the goal of the national policies, TSD has to develop concrete strategies and leading principles for the future. Also, TSD has to plan the short, intermediate and long term programs as a crucial reference for the further research development.
