Title The Survey of the Household Travel Characteristics in Kaohsiung Metropolitan

Summary The purpose of this research is to survey the travel characteristics of households within Kaohsiung metropolitan of 23 districts in Taiwan. In order to trace household travel patterns, data collection activities conducted in this research include screenline survey and external cordon survey, roadside survey and home interview. 51 field stations were set in three screenlines to survey traffic volumes for a 16-hour period. In addition, 10 external cordon stations were set to survey traffic volumes for 12 hours. In roadside questionnaires, valid sample size is summed up to 9,065 and sampling rate is 3.98%. In home interviews, valid sample size is up to 6,965 and sampling rate is about 1.02%. In the year of 1996, the population in Kaohsiung metropolitan is about 2.6 million and 0.68 million of households. According to the statistical analysis of above survey results, total sum of individual trips is about 4.90 million in weekday. Average number of daily trips per household is about 7.20 individual trips. Moreover, average number of daily trips per person is about 1.88 individual trips. In this research shown, the total trips by purpose and mode are distributed as follows: 36.4% are home-work trips, 20.8% are home-school trips, 12.4% are home-others trips, 24.1% are trips taking cars, 49.9 % are trips taking motorcycles, and 8.8% are trips taking transits.
