| Summary | The Institute of Transportation (IOT) has begun its task on the development of the master plan to govern the guidelines for ITS development and deployment in Taiwan since 1999. The first step towards its goal is to investigate the needs of the various road users and government authorities or agencies, and the technique capability of domestic industries related to ITS products and/or services. This research presents an initialized effort on such goal to complete a pilot survey through interview and/or mailed questionnaire with hundreds of responses. The after-survey analysis has demonstrated a certain pattern of demand strength, which can provide the basic recommendation towards the priority setting in defining ITS development areas and user services. In the present research, basically the technical capability and levels of domestic ITS related industries are able to meet the users* needs of various sectors. Moreover, 7 ITS development areas and 21 corresponding user service items have been identified based on the survey results. These crucial research outcomes provide fundamental information to the development of the Master Plan for ITS in Taiwan. |
