Title The demonstration of a privileged taxi service for the disabled and the elderly
Dept Transportation Safety Division
Year 1996
Summary

Being abundant, and having low-floors, high mobility, and the capability to provide 24-hour door-to-door services, taxis are one of the most suitable transportation services for the disabled and the elderly to encourage them to go out and to develop their potential intelligence.

The purpose of this project is to establish an operation method of a privileged taxi service for the disabled and the elderly based on the results of the project, "The plan and design of taxi privileged transportation services", and the experience in serving persons with disabilities by The Eden Social Welfare Foundation.

The contents of the project include establishing an operation method for the privileged taxi service, organizing a taxi team, training taxi drivers, operating the services, executing the marketing plan and surveying the satisfaction of the service.

5 taxi companies and 108 drivers joined into the taxi team on March 13, 1996. 5657 service cards, 36000 DMs and 5340 service coupons were sent to the disabled and the elderly. 11 newspapers, one TV program and 5 radio programs reported the project. In addition, more than 5000 services were provided for the disabled and the elderly from March to June 1996. The survey indicates that most people are satisfied with this privileged service and wish it to be continued.
