• The Urban Air Mobility (UAM) services will open up new opportunities for UAV development.

       The Institute of Transportation (IoT) hosted the International Forum on Leading into the Future-2024 Urban Air Mobility (UAM) today (March 20) to promote innovative UAV applications, connect to UAM development, and seek opportunities for international industrial collaboration and exchanges. The focus was on discussing new UAM service development trends, Taiwan’s promotion strategies, and how to create business opportunities in the UAV industry. More than 140 domestic and foreign visitors enthusiastically participated on-site.
       Chief Secretary Huang Ho-ting of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications attended the forum and delivered an address. She stated that the purpose of the UAV technology industry team established by the Ministry of Transportation and Communications is to bring together industry, government, university, and research momentum to highlight Taiwan’s industrial strength. Interministerial collaboration has provided assistance in Taiwan’s UAV industrial development, as well as the improvement of relevant governance and information security regulations, etc. It is hoped that international attention to Taiwan’s innovative strength and substantial performance will increase, as will the UAV industry’s ability to achieve common good, cross-domain collaboration, and global connectivity.

• The international forum was attended by representative manufacturers from Japan and Germany.

       To connect with international UAM development trends, the global UAM benchmark operators SkyDrive, Volocopter, and AECOM have been invited to the forum. Topic reports have been delivered addressing international trends, site collaboration, future development, and other UAM issues. At the same time, the Unmanned Aircraft Systems Team of Taiwan, GEOSAT Aerospace & Technology Inc., and other units and speakers have been invited to discuss the challenges and new opportunities arising from the global Urban Air Mobility (UAM) development. It is hoped that through international development experience, future promotion opportunities for Taiwan’s UAM services will be identified.

• Industries in Taiwan and Japan work together to jointly seek global UAM business opportunities.

       In addition, Kenji Nakagawa, General Manager of Air Mobility Business Development of SkyDrive, signed an MOU with Shaping the Future of UAV Innovative Solution and the Industrial Technology Research Institute in the presence of the IOT, Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association, and the Unmanned Aircraft Systems Team of Taiwan. This paves the way for future collaboration between Taiwan and Japan as they pursue global UAM business opportunities.

• Planning UAM Development Footprints and Laying Groundwork for UAM Promotion

        Director-General Chi-kuo Lin of IoT stated that the IoT has been planning the Urban Air Mobility (UAM) development footprints since 2023. “Aircraft systems,” “airspace management,” “organizational promotion,” and “operational situation” have all been researched and analyzed in the hopes of laying the groundwork for UAM promotion. Furthermore, the UAV industry will strive for the visions and goals of “forward-looking innovation,” “sustainable green energy,” and “fairness and happiness,” transforming Taiwan’s UAM into a magical mountain that protects the nation with forward-thinking development and international competitiveness.
