Author | Liang Tseng |
Summary | " Taichung Metro's first route, the Green Line, officially began operation on April 25, 2021, making it the 5th rapid transit system operating in Taiwan. Since barrier-free environment and environmentally responsible are both important polices to design stations in the domestic transportation system, the complete of accessible facilities in each station is the requirement to obtain user license. However, when it comes to the correctness of Braille labels, its content, meaning, and layout are often ignored on handrails of the ramp, stairway, and stairs in the station, which are closely related to visually impaired people. As a result, the content of Braille labels is rarely scrutinized. This article focuses on Taichung City Hall Station of the green line in Taichung MRT. The research subjects are collected from Braille labels on handrails of the ramp, stairway, and stairs in gateway one and two. The research adopts observational method and field study. In the stage of analysis, the content of Braille and meaning are analyzed and compared, and the number of Braille labels and cells are calculated. The research showed two results in the following. First result is the content of Braille. The Braille labels on handrails of the ramp in gateway one is false. The content of Braille label No. B on the ascending handrail is misplaced as the meaning of front elevator. The first character of Mandarin Braille, front, is lack of one cell. Furthermore, the second result is the number of labels and cells on handrails. The total number of Braille labels on handrail of the ramp are 8, and the total number of cells are 110 in which the ascending Braille cells are 62 and descending Braille cells are 48." |
