Summary | Trip origin and destination data has always been a critical data to traffic related analysis. Lots of practical action plans, such as new station evaluation and routes adjustments are heavily rely on this data. In the past, these kind of data can only be obtained by conducting surveys, which is resources consuming. This study proposes a method to obtain the trips and railway-riding trips origin and destination data by using the telecom signal data. This study uses telecom signal data as the basis to identify whenever the cell phone user is moving and whether he/she is on rail transportation. By developing a comparison algorithm, we can tell whether the cell-phone user is on rail transportation. As a result, we could produce the hourly general and the railway-riding origin/destination tables which is a significant progress because traditional survey can only provide general origin/destination tables. The new type of origin/destination tables offers more detail about daily trips that allow traffic practitioners to design traffic-improving action plans in an more efficient and more effective way. |
