| Summary | Transportation always plays a significant role in deciding whether a recreation system can be success-fully functioning. Firstly, it is necessary to have a good transportation system to convey the visitors from their homes to the recreation sites. Furthermore, the objective of a good transportation system planning is not only to satisfy tourist travel demand, but also to direct tourist traffic according to the well designed tourist guiding plan .Recently, following the increase of car ownership, the highway conditions are quickly deteriorated. Even worse is that almost at every holiday the high volumes of tourist and returning home traffic meet together and has led to highways becoming seriously congested and a consequent deterioration in service quality of recreation systems. Since transportation system has crucial effects developing a good recreation system, in 1994, the Institute of Transportation (IOT) had conducted the project entitled”An Overall Transportation Planning for the Recreation District in Taiwan”and paid more attention to the preliminary study of the transportation system connecting cities to the recreation sites in Taiwan. This studty succeeded the pioneer project, a more detailed overall plan for improving the transportation system connecting cities to the recreation sites in Northern Taiwan Area was proposed. It is expected that this plan will be able to be a good reference for the local governments in Northern Taiwan Area initiating the improvement projects of the transportation system for the recreation sites in their jurisdictions. |
