Summary | With rapid economic development and technological advances, Taiwan has proactively participated in the planning, development and construction of all kinds of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in light of international development trends. In order to allow road users access to complete, correct and real-time traffic information, the Institute of Transportation, MOTC started planning and constructing databases for the “Traffic and Transportation Service Center,” “Land, Sea, and Air Public Transport Information Center,” and the “National Traffic Information” in 2003, by which the real-time traffic information and public transport information are provided not only to road users but also research institutes and value-added business operators to widen the range of applications of traffic information. In this project, we reviewed the current procedures of collecting and publishing information as well as the requirements and characteristics of users (including information providers, road users, and value-added business operators) in the “Real-Time Traffic Information Service” and “Radio Data System-Traffic Message Channel (RDS-TMC) Service” that road users need most and developed sophisticated import strategies to strengthen the quality control of the sources, client services, value-added applications and databases. By cooperation with inter-unit sources of information and establishment of standards for information transmission and formatting, the quality of real-time traffic information is expected to be enhanced. By combing the schedules and specifications in “The Plan for Cloud Infrastructure and Application of Traffic Information Service,” this study manages to propose practices for enhancing the quality and service of the real-time traffic information. |
