Summary | The cross Strait direct shipping is one of the shipping lines sailing to Taiwan, this shipping line becomes more and more important to the ports of Taiwan due to the intensification of trade between the Strait and the special geographical niche of Taiwan. It has been already three years after the opening of direct shipping, this study focuses on the variation of the number of shipping routes, cargo volume and capacity between the Strait. In the years of economic depression, the cross Strait direct shipping outperforms the international shipping market. How to grasp this opportunity to develop the logistics and free trade zone is a major topic for the ports in Taiwan.
Considering the growth momentum of the cargo volume of this country is decaying and the rapid growth of Mainland Chinese ports, if the restriction imposed on the cross Strait shipping could be lifted in the future and let the foreign shipping liners to be participated in the cross Strait shipping market to increase their operation flexibilities. The volumes the transshipment containers of local ports could be benefited from these actions and create a firm foundation for the development of international logistics of Taiwan ports. The service level of local ports will be escalates to ensure the development targets of sustaining, increasing and creating the cargo volume for the ports. |
