Summary In recent years the government has continued to implement several major public transport infrastructure projects, including HSR, TRA’s improvement, MRT, and large bus terminals. However,   integration between various transport modes at public transport stations is insufficient. The reason is that there is no comprehensive manual of planning, design, and operations criteria for transfer facilities at public transport interchanges.
This study focuses on drafting the planning and design criteria for public transit interchanges in order to be used as a reference for the departments of planning and designing, administration, and operation. The items of transfer facilities discussed in this study include the kiss & ride system, park & ride system, pedestrian system, disabled access system, signage system, and transfer information system.
This study, in 2007, is the first term of the two-year project. The outcome includes the definition and categorization of intermodal terminals/stations, the state-of-the-art planning and design criteria for transfer facilities, the case study, the discussion of subjects for planning and designing transfer facilities, the measure for integration of operation and management of transfer facilities at public transport interchanges, the draft of planning and design criteria of transfer facilities, and the proposed process of legalizing  the planning and design criteria of transfer facilities.
The draft criteria mentioned above can be used as the standards of planning, design, and inspection for newly-built public transit interchanges, as well as a reference of innovation for existing intermodal stations.
