Summary | The insufficiency of transportation services may influence the willingness of senior citizens to participate in outdoor activities, which consequently affects their quality of life. This study adopts a questionnaire survey method to investigate the overall activity of an aging society, and the mobility characteristics and scope of activity of Taiwanese senior citizens. The findings acquired from the questionnaires reveal that the major transportation modes for senior citizens when participating in outdoor activities include walking, riding a motorcycle, and biking. In addition, an analysis of accident dataset recorded by the National Police Agency, Ministry of the Interior, shows that among all transportation modes, motorcycles present the most serious safety problem for senior citizens. Therefore, this study explores the primary accident and collision characteristics for senior motorcyclists by analyzing related collision data. We also analyze the driver registry database to obtain subsequent numbers of registries for senior drivers and motorcyclists. Based on the findings obtained from analyzing the aforementioned data, this study proposes issues pertaining to transportation for promoting the active aging in an aging society. |
