Summary The development of international air transport of passenger and cargo markets is dramatically affected by the changes in the global economic environment. In recent years, the dramatic changes in global economic conditions have led to an unstable demand pattern for air passenger and cargo traffics. However, Taiwan has achieved breakthroughs in tourism limits, flight rights, and cross-strait relationships. The government also endeavors to enhance competitiveness in the international air transportation community for gateway airports. In addition, the development of Taiwan’s civil aviation currently faces another wave of critical advancement. It is therefore important to understand air passenger and cargo traffics and their distribution.

Currently, Taiwan has not established dedicated units to collect relevant international aviation statistics or edit related annual reports to back up aviation policies formulated by the Taiwanese aviation or airport authority. Therefore, this study anticipates collecting, classifying, and analyzing available information from various global aviation consultation organizations, and use subsequent findings as a basis for the future establishment of aviation transport databases.
