Summary | This study aims at the rationalization and facilitation of efficiency for international container transport operations in Taiwan. Data collection is done by means of a comprehensive literature review, empirical investigation of container transport operations, as well as personal interviews with academic researchers and shipping practitioners. A questionnaire survey for benchmarking comparison is also conducted in this study. Five operation dimensions including port and terminal, customs, warehouse, transportation, and information are categorized for evaluation and enhancement to reach the vision of (highly flexible container transport environment). The results indicates that information integration, convenience in customs and ease of regulations are most critical aspects for enhancing the efficiency in the container transport operations in Taiwan. In addition, this study proposes a framework of sustainable monitoring system for the evaluation of efficiency and rationality of the container transport operations. Some implications for practices and future research are also briefly discussed.. |
