| Summary | The Institute of Transportation (IOT) has launched the " National Traffic Information Center " web service in November 2004. Till now, the IOT has assisted 23 city/county governments in Taiwan to join the real-time traffic information on-line reporting system. The sources of real-time traffic information include traffic accident information reported by the Police Bureau, road construction information reported by the Public Works Bureau and Economic Development Bureau, and the traffic signal failure and traffic jam condition reported by the Transportation Bureau. Besides, the "National Traffic Information Center" also integrates the traffic information from National Expressway Bureau and Directorate General of Highways to make the information more comprehensive. To ensure the "National Traffic Information Center" web service more reliable and to intensify the performances, the IOT has been maintaining the web service, integrates the information from the project of "Research and System Development of Traffic Information on Substitute for National Freeway" and exchanges the information with "City Traffic Information Center." In order to provide more complete, real-time and correct traffic information to the public, this project has also upgraded road networks data and provides more robust functions of the system. |
