Summary | Direct cross-strait sea transport was initiated on December 15, 2008. The benefits of lower costs for sea transportation and operation were expected, and the competitiveness of Taiwan international harbors will be improved. 11 harbors in Taiwan and 63 harbors in China have joined this opening process. The transport between these harbors will be definitely frequent and the competition will be intense. Therefore, tracking and knowing the information of cargo transport will be the most important topic for carriers and owners. If the sea transport information platform can be constructed at Taiwanese international harbors, the real-time, dynamic, and integrated cargo information can be provided. Thus, more domestic and international carriers will choose Taiwanese international harbors as their transport harbors, and that will greatly improve the competitiveness of Taiwanese international harbors. The objective of this research project is to discuss the feasibility of constructing a sea transport information platform between Taiwan and China, and expect that by successfully constructing the information platform, real-time, dynamic, and integrated sea cargo information can be provided, and the competitiveness of Taiwanese international harbors can be enhanced. |
