Summary | In recent years, due to the rapid growth in container traffic in the Asia-Pacific Region, port facilities of mainland China have undergone dramatic expansion. The changes in the shipping market such as expansion of the ship size, oversupply of transport capacity, Daily Maersk service, expansion of strategic alliance or joint venture, energy conservation and carbon reduction, low freight rates, structural changes in the industry, large container shipping lines operating wharfs, etc. have forced major container shipping lines in the world to adjust their deployment of main shipping routes, so as to be competitive in the market. This project collects the data on main Asia-Europe and Asia-Americas shipping routes in 2013, and establishes a database on main Asia-Pacific Region shipping routes upon verification. Based on the database, the competition between the Port of Kaohsiung and the Port of Xiamen is discussed and strategies are proposed to serve as a reference for related agencies to formulate port policies. |
