Summary | The number of bridge is over 25,000 in the Taiwan area, and the average age of the bridges is 20. The work load of inspection and maintenance increases with bridge age. The bridge inspector, which is being used now, has some disadvantages, such as high cost, huge body and hard operability. Additionally, huge risks occur during the inspection procedure in which a worker is placed underneath the bridge. This research thus develops a prototype of bridge inspector carried by a vehicle to inspect bridge in a fast, economic and safe way. This research focuses on developing the prototype of a bridge inspector being carried by a vehicle to inspect two-way two-Jane bridge. The inspection method includes taking pictures underneath a bridge with robots carrying a CCD instead of direct visual inspection. . The structure of robots is analyzed using the finite element method, and the bridge inspector prototype is examined in a field-test to validate the smooth-running procedure and the quality of photographs taken by the CCD. |
