Summary | To convey the status and capacity of Taiwan’s transportation system in 2005, this report analyzes the aspects of major construction projects, infrastructure, general operations information, capacity, growth trend of demand, and level of service for various transportation systems (such as railways, highways, maritime transportation, civil aviation, and urban transportation), respectively. Most items in this report remain the same as those in the previous report, except several changes and supplements. First, the chapter of ports and the chapter of maritime transportation are condensed into the chapter of maritime transportation because of their similarity. Second, metropolitan transportation is renamed urban transportation to represent its content more accurately. Third, this report emphasizes the analysis of the growth trend of demand by supplementary items about each transportation system. The supplementary items include passenger/freight vehicle-km (in the chapter of railways) level of service of national freeways, expressways, provincial highways, county highways, and passenger/freight transportation (in the chapter of highways) types of imports & exports cargos, throughputs of international ports of major countries, analysis of ranking and growth rate, growth trend of passenger and freight transportation of international and domestic routes, and containers transported from north to south (in the chapter of marine transportation) passenger transportation of international airports of major countries, analysis of ranking and growth rate (in the chapter of civil transportation) and growth trend of transit (in the chapter of urban transportation). This annual report has been published since 1978. A data diskette containing all the items has been included in this report since 1993 and it has been replaced by a compact disk (CD) since 1998. For convenience, this report is available online (at http://www.iot.gov.tw/) since this year. |
