| Summary | Because rail transportation is more efficient and has less impact on environment, it is essential to promote rail transportation in Taiwan for its limited land with high population. Although Rail transportation has high social benefits, it requires an enormous capital expenditure. In order to provide a service that complies with predetermined quality of service under the most cost-effective conditions, it is necessary to analyze the capacity of a railway system during any of planning, design, and operation stages. This study focuses on developing a GUI-based software for analyzing the rail capacity of regional railways. The TRA improvement project is also used as an example to illustrate the analysis of rail capacity and the features of the software. The result of this project is an essential part of regional railways in the series of rail capacity researches. It will be further used to promote the rail capacity model, to educate and train people, and to compile “Rail Capacity Manual”. |
