Summary This study was conducted to review the program of driver education and licensing for driving and motorcycling in Taiwan. Through collecting related data from developed countries and conducting a survey to realize the knowledge and skill required for safe driving and motorcycling, the curriculums of driving education were then planned and designed in this study. The study results suggested that the curriculums of driving education should be divided into two categories – “The Traffic System and its Basic Regulations” and “Requirements for Driving a Specific Type of Motor Vehicle”. The former is further suggested to include six subjects, which are “Driving Manners”, “Driver’s Information Processing”, “Traffic Regulations”, “Defensive Driving”, “Traffic Accident Handing Kits”, and “Economic and Ecological Driving”.  “Basic Vehicle Structure, Operating Principles and Car Control Design”, “Basic Safe Driving on Urban and Rural Roads”, and “Safe Driving on Freeways and Expressways and in Special Weather or Environments”,  are also suggested for the category of “Requirements for Driving a Specific Type of Motor Vehicle”.
