Summary	Exclusive motorcycle lane is one of the common traffic facilities currently established by various municipalities in Taiwan. Nevertheless, due to inept setup in scheme, the effect has not been evident. This study, based on practical investigation and analysis, and the idea of separating traffic of 2-wheel and 4 wheel vehicles, aims to find out the premise for setting up exclusive motorcycle lane in Taiwan area, and the applicable means and formula thereof and, at the same time, probe the efficiency of such facility in order to provide traffic organizations with managing standards when they plan the design and layout in the future. We investigated urban and suburban, physical and non-physical separation, exclusive lane for on-going traffic and opposing traffic. We also provide setup standards for safety and efficiency, and suggest appropriate measures and traffic handling on the road and at intersection. When the results of this study are found effective for the municipalities to execute exclusive motorcycle lane policy, they should then serve as good references in determining the set up locations.
