Summary | Due to the rapid development of information and communication technology, the establishment of network on-line via communication satellites for vessels sailing in the ocean has already been an obvious trend. The remote monitoring and diagnosis originally used on land is also applied to the shipping sector. In this way, vessels during sailing can utilize the manpower and information on shore to assist in the maintenance and repair of vessel. Although satellite communication technology is quite developed, the application in remote monitoring and diagnosis is still limited by bandwidth and communication expense. Based on this constrained conditions, we utilize the multi-agent system to solve the problem. Then under an integration system concept and for different technological sectors including satellite communications, vessel propulsion system, and on-shore maintenance engineer, a usable remote pre-warning, diagnosis, maintenance and management prototype system is designed. In this study, the multi-media ship-shore communication platform under figure-control environment is first finished. Then the main engine performance diagnosis system and the ship location response system required by IMO are planned. |
