The Taiwan Railway Administration (TRA) is restructuring on its market to face the challenge of new high speed rail system open service in 2005. In the future, the TRA will focus more on medium/short distance trips market and provide feeder service for THSRC (Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation) passengers on connected stations for both systems. To establish a seamless transfer service between these two railway systems, the integration of ticketing systems will be one of the critical issues besides providing transfer facilities.
However, because the TRA and THSRC have already decided their own new ticketing systems and they have their own characteristics, it would be hard to integrate their ticketing systems. To achieve this goal, we suggest developing cooperation between these two systems. We proposed plans and strategies for integration and the possible integration models after referring to the related successful experiences from other countries. We hope that the results of this study can provide valuable suggestions to facilitate the development of seamless passenger transfer service between these two systems and come up with a win-win solution.
