| Summary | After the completion of highway and expressway network and soon-in-operation high-speed railroad, the land transportation in Taiwan will change a lot. These changes will not only make Taiwan’s land transportation system reach 300km per hour, but also make Taiwan become a one-day-trip megapolis. In addition, due to the advanced electronic technology, the national highways will be charged by ETC system in 2006. The transportation demand management policy, which charged differently by distance, will be practiced in the future. During this huge changing period, the impacts on the supply and management of intercity transportation will be tremendous. On account of these huge changes, the Transportation Whitebook and studies on integrated transportation planning, which published by the MOTC and the IOT periodically in the past could not satisfy the public. Therefore, it is necessary to collect, observe, compare and analyze the changes in intercity transportation system data to advance integrated transportation strategy during the three-to-four-year period before and after the high-speed railroad’s operation. This report summarizes the first-year study work of a three-year project. The emphases in the first year are to: (1) collect and observe the character of the intercity transportation and travelers demand data (2) investigate and analyze the characteristics of the intercity transportation data .(3) build up database and display system of intercity transportation (4) set up an intercity transportation prospect team (ITPT) that is assembled by several relative specialists and (5) deliberate study fruits and intercity transportation observation report. |
