Summary | Institute of Transportation (IOT) started to implement e-traffic service projects of the Challenge 2008: National Development Plan since 2003. In the evolution of intercity transportation information, IOT established the Real-time Transportation Information Service in Land, Air, and Marine Terminals to provide the public with pre-trip mode choice information and real-time freeway and flight information. To spread the e-traffic service and promote the public to use public transportation systems more comfortable and convenient, IOT continue to assist public transportation carriers to update their information, including the national freeway and provincial highway systems. Except the information collected by traffic detectors installed by Directorate General of Highways, M.O.T.C., the information of provincial highways is very insufficient at present. Therefore, how to expend the source of provincial highway information such as installing GPS equipment on highway buses is an important issue. This study collected the route and schedule information of intercity passenger transportation using provincial highways and referred the data on GIS network to analyze their distribution and density. Finally, this study probed into the feasibility of installing GPS equipment on highway passenger transportation carriers and proposed further development strategies. |
