The fundamental purpose of the input-output framework is to analyze the inter-dependence of industries in the macro-economy. An input-output model in its most basic form consists of a system of linear equation, each one of which describes the distribution of an industry’s product throughout the economy, so the term inter-industry analysis is also used.
This paper tries to estimate the economic impact of the Port of Kaohsiung(Republic of China) in 1996. In the application of a methodology based on the use of the input-output model, the objective is to obtain not only results concerning the direct, indirect and induced impact of port economic activity, but also output, income, and employment effects.
The results of study shows, the assessment of the direct impact produced by the Port of Kaohsiung, which estimates 15.59% of total GDP of Kaohsiung City
the direct and indirect impacts produced by the Port of Kaohsiung, which estimates 50.83% of total GDP of Kaohsiung City
the direct, indirect and induced impacts estimates 87.58% of total GDP of Kaohsiung City. We conclude that this impact was indeed very important
on the other hand, the importance of the relationship between economic development and seaports particularly where growth is so dependent upon imports and exports has been emphasized.
