Summary
Collecting data of highway facilities is an important task for highway management departments of the government. Without the aid of any management system, the huge amount of data be easily organized, updated and assessed.The Highway Inventory Management System (HIMS) is developed for these needs.
The purpose of this project is to expand the functions of the original HIMS. Accomplishments in this project include: (1) Collecting roadway images, including the provincial and county routes in northern and central Taiwan, and the county and township routes in Penghu. Approximately 7,600 kilometers of roadway images were completed in total. (2) Integrating freeway images and the data in the freeway facilities management system. (3) Giving suggestions for how to improve the highway survey equipment and reduce its cost. (4) Improving the software user interface, and simplify the data processing to reduce the users&rsquo workload. (5) Replacing MapXtreme with Google Maps. (6) Allowing users to produce reports of specific information. (7) Holding 3 training programs respectively in northern, central and southern Taiwan to promote HIMS.
In brief, the Highway Inventory Management System can inform highway management departments of the latest and the previous data or images simultaneously and allow the work easier done.
